How to plan your bus, tram, train or cycling journey
It’s summer and the city is very busy, particularly during the festivals.
It’s important that you plan ahead and give yourself more time for your journey.
If you want to travel by bus, you may want to consider getting off a couple of stops earlier to avoid the busy city centre.
Buses
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has a fantastic public transport network into and around the city and public transport operators have great tools to help you plan your journey.

Trams
Trams are running between ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Airport and the West End of the city centre, at Atholl Crescent and Coates Crescent.

Until mid-August, trams can’t run from Princes Street to Leith and Newhaven due to a fire on Princes Street. But you can link to buses to Leith, the Shore and Newhaven from Shandwick Place and Lothian Road.
You can use your tram ticket on
- Lothian Service 25 bus from Shandwick Place to Leith
- Lothian Service 16 bus from Lothian Road which goes to Leith and Newhaven.
You can also use your tram ticket on the Lothian Airlink 100 bus between West End/Haymarket and ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Airport.
Trains
You can travel between our main rail stations, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Waverley and Haymarket, which are ideally located for the city centre and Murrayfield Stadium.
You can also link to Musselburgh and North Berwick from Waverley Station.
There are great bus links close to both stations to get to other parts of the city.
Cycling
The city's bike hire scheme is affordable and easy to use.
Walking
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is very walkable. You can easily get around the city centre, but note that it is a bit hilly in places!
Car
We have park and ride sites around the city and we advise you to use these and avoid driving into the city centre, unless you absolutely need to travel by car.
